The Georgia Sociological Association
2024 Annual Conference
will take place in Columbus, GA
on October 9th -11th, 2024 at the
Cunningham Conference Center
Sociology Inside and Outside the Academy
Against the backdrop of increasingly rapid social change our society has faced over the past few years, sociology is uniquely positioned to not only understand the world we find ourselves in, but to also better it! To that end, our 2024 conference aims to explore the dynamic interactions, collaborations, and influences between sociology as an academic discipline and its manifestations in broader society.
We welcome conference submissions that seek to examine how sociological insights and methodologies are applied, adapted, and transformed in various contexts both within and outside of the academy. We are particularly excited for submissions that seek to examine how traditional academic research in sociology interacts with and informs broader societal issues. Topics for consideration include, but are not limited to:
- Theoretical Foundations: discussions of classical and contemporary sociological theories and how they can help understand our current world.
- Empirical Research: research studies of all types (quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods) and at all stages.
- Interdisciplinary Collaborations: how sociologists are engaging with other disciplines to address complex societal issues.
- Working with Community: how sociology impacts and works with the community, especially those most impacted by the social problems we seek to understand and address.
- Policy and Advocacy: the role of sociological research and practice in shaping public policy, advocacy efforts, and social change initiatives.
- Teaching, Learning, and Pedagogy: Innovations, best practices, or new ideas in teaching sociology. Creative ways to prepare students for graduate school or the job market.
The deadline for submission is Friday, September 6th, 2024.
For any challenges or issues with submission, please contact GSA Vice-President Dr. Allen Hyde ([email protected]).
